What is Math Muncher about?

In Math Muncher, you control a feline moving blocks around to solve specific mathematical problems so you can feed the hungry titular character. The main operation of the game is addition. When you push a block with value on it into another block with value, they add up, while other operations do what is said on them. There are lots of blocks like absolute value, square root, power of 2, etc.

In addition to math, pushing puzzles is a big deal of the game, finding the optimal pathways and opening doors will add that extra challenge to make the game fun. And don’t forget stars; each level has three stars for you to collect. The trick is your character cannot collect them, but you have to push a block into them - an exciting mechanic to keep you entertained.

A good way to think about this game is a light Baba is you.

Visuals & Audio

The game has very pleasing aesthetics; everything is visible, and you can easily differentiate what needs to be done and how. The color palette is great as well, and it follows the usual enemies are red, objects are highlighted formula.

Audio and sounds have positives and negatives. What do I mean by that? Everything you do has a distinct sound. How is that good and bad? Well, it’s great that the sounds are there, but after moving 250 times, you WILL get annoyed (especially when you know the solution and are just taping away to get it done). There are sounds for merging blocks, solving levels, and even going through menu options. A song plays in the background, but you will most likely mute the game and listen to your music while you solve puzzles.

Pros and Cons

The Good

  • Good aesthetics

  • Fun puzzles

  • Game teaches math (to an extent)

  • Can pick it up and drop it anytime

  • You can change how the cat looks

The Bad

  • Poorly Optimized

  • No English Language (for now)

  • Combat feels wonky at times

The Neutral

  • Only 60 levels

Summary

I purposely didn’t mention the details about the gameplay as that would ruin the experience. The game is fun and easy to play, so I highly recommend you try it out yourself. It has only 60 levels, and you can complete it in under an hour.
